A Guide to Visiting Multnomah Falls, Oregon
Multnomah Falls is the crown gem of Oregon's Columbia River Gorge, which is known for its stunning waterfalls. Our team recently planned a trip to hike to Multnomah Falls, which is located in the gorgeous Columbia River Gorge just outside of Portland, Oregon. As we drove over the mountains and down towards Hood River, the clouds began to dissipate. By the time we arrived at The Dalles, the sun had broken through. We'd left the Cascade Range behind and entered a considerable dryer region. It reminded us more of grassy places in California than the evergreens we'd seen along the coast on previous days.
This was the easternmost point of our journey. To get to Multnomah Falls, we took smaller roads along the Washington side of the river, finally crossing back into Oregon and into the rain at Cascade Locks. There we did Oregon sightseeing and we found that the landscape is stunning regardless of which direction you approach it. There are several additional waterfalls to visit along the route, including a few on the Historic Columbia River Highway, which runs along to I-84.
Although the trail to the top bridge viewing the falls was blocked, and we thought that the view from there was much greater, from the bottom, it was still worth seeing and didn't take long.
